AbstractNine types of alumina/graphite laminated nanocomposites were fabricated by layer-by-layer method and hot-pressing. Analyses were carried to evaluate the relationship between the structural parameters and mechanical properties. Results show that the variation of structural parameters causes significant changes in the effective proportion of graphite phase and the contribution to the crack propagation energy, thus realizing the optimization of the materials. Furthermore, the performance of the alumina/graphite laminated nanocomposites can be improved further by introducing corrugated interfaces. The toughness, bending strength, woke of fracture and friction coefficient of this newly-developed alumina/graphite laminated nanocomposites could reach, 7.1 MPa m1/2, 398 MPa, 524 J m_2 and 0.43, respectively, which were 1.5 times, 1.1 times, 5.0 times and 0.6 times higher than those of monolithic Al2O3 ceramics.
