Professor Weimin LIU, received his PhD with major of Lubricating Materials and Tribology from Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1990. After that, he joined Laboratory of Solid Lubrication (LSL), Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics. From June 1993 to June 1994, he worked as a Visiting Scholar in Pennsylvania State University, USA. He has been the Associate Director and Director of Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics from year 2002 to 2012. From the year of 2011, he has taken the duty of the President of Chinese Tribology Institution. Currently, he is a Professor and Head of the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication, and from 2013, he has been the Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Up to now, he has published more than 400 papers including in Chemical Society Reviews, JACS, Advanced Materials, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Chemistry of Materials, Chemical Communication，Applied Physics Letters, Wear, Tribology International, Tribology Letters, with total citation more than 10000. He has published two books of 《Lubricating Materials for Gears》 and 《Handbook of Space Lubricating Materials and Technology》. He obtained more than 60 Chinese Patents and 1 US Patent; received 2 items National 2nd Class Invention Award of China, 1 item National 2nd Class Natural Science Award of China. He has been the Chief Scientist of China “973” project on “Fundamental Research of Lubricating and Antiwear Materials under Extreme Operating Conditions” as well as “Research of High Performance Synthetic Lubricating Materials”, and the Chief Scientist of “The Program of Space Tribology of Materials at SZ-7 Spacecraft of China” in 2008. Currently, his research interests mainly focus on space and aviation lubrication and high performance lubricating materials.
