AbstractThe friction and wear properties of MoS2-filled Nylon 6 were evaluated with a Timken tester. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to study the rubbed surfaces. It was found that MoS2 is not very effective for reducing friction but causes an increase in wear. EPMA and SEM analysis revealed that the transfer film is not continuous. XPS analysis indicated that MoS2 is oxided into MoO3 and does not become enriched in the transfer film.
