Abstract	Keep it simple! A simple silica gel immobilized nano-Ru catalyst was prepared using ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium tetrafluoroborate as the solvent to dissolve RuCl₃, as the template for the in situ formation of mesoporous silica gel and as the carbon source to build RuC on/inside SiO₂. The Ru/SiO₂ exhibited excellent catalytic activity and shape-selectivity in the selective hydrogenation of nitrobenzenes.
